Mumbai, Nov. 15: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has set up an Electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMMC) to monitor election related news telecast on various television channels. This step was taken in view of the State Assembly Election in the state scheduled to be held on November 20, 2024.
The preparations are underway for the Nov. 20 assembly elections in Maharashtra. The voting will be held in a single phase on the day. Taking necessary precautions, the ECI has set up the EMMC to monitor the poll-related news broadcast on television news channels in the country.
The ECI will monitor each and every news telecast on various TV news channels on the polling day and also on the day before the polling. If any noteworthy text, visuals regarding the news is detected in the news being telecast, the election system of the concerned district will take immediate notice of it. For this the state-level and district-level media monitoring and control rooms are working in Mumbai and the districts of the State.
The district election officer and concerned system and the EMMC will keep a watch on the poll-related news telecast and will take immediate note of any news regarding important incidents, breach of the model code of conduct, law and order etc. The action report will be sent to the ECI by the concerned DEO and EMMC.
A meeting regarding the EMMC was held today at Mantralaya. Instructions were issued to the concerned district information officer (DIO) and Member Secretary of the (Media Verification and Monitoring Committee) by the Joint Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Rathod. Information and Public Relations Director Dayanand Kamble, Under Secretary and Nodal Officer of Media Room Sharad Dalvi, Desk Officer Vivek Jagdale, Desk Officer Kalpana Karande, DIOs of Regional Office were present at the meeting through the video communication system.
