Marking a significant milestone in India’s urban infrastructure development, Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated Mumbai Metro Line 3, the city’s first underground metro. The 12.69 km stretch between Aarey JVLR and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) will transform daily commute for millions of Mumbaikars.

During the flagging off ceremony at BKC metro station, MMRC presented the Hon’ble Prime Minister with a souvenir depicting the entire Metro 3 corridor from Aarey to Cuffe Parade, highlighting important landmarks of the city in a miniature model.

The Hon’ble Prime Minister unveiled a commemorative coffee table book showcasing Metro Line 3’s journey through beautiful photos and launched the Metro Service mobile app MetroConnect3. The app provides detailed information about station facilities, including accessibility options and nearby services, all available in English, Hindi, and Marathi. Additionally, it offers seamless last-mile connectivity planning, grievance management for addressing concerns, and the ability to report lost items instantly.

This occasion was witnessed by C. P. Radhakrishanan, Governor, Maharashtra; Shri Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister, Maharashtra; Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra; Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra; Deepak Kesarkar, Guardian Minister, Mumbai City; Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLC; Smt Sujata Saunik, Chief Secretary of Maharashtra Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary MoHUA; Mr Yagi Koji-san, Consul General of Japan; Mr Takuro TAKEUCHI, Chief representative of JICA and other senior officials of Government of India and Government Maharashtra.

“The People of Mumbai were anticipating Metro Line 3 for quite a long time now. I thank the Government of Japan and Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA) in particular for their support of the Aqua line. This metro project is also a symbol of India-Japan friendship”. Said Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

Hon’ble Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde expressed his happiness on the inauguration of the much awaited Metro line-3. Metro -3 will be a game changer as it will lead to reduction in fuel consumption, save time and make commute a hassle-free experience for mumbaikars.
